Fishing the Carpetbagger Nymph During August

Another Rogue River fly fishing video from hot August. A look at fishing the Carpetbagger Stonefly Nymph for summer steelhead. Landing the steelhead for the hero shot was a gas. They never want to cooperate, and as Teri had by this time retreated to the comfort and shade of the car, I had to do it by myself.

Rogue River August Speycasting

Early morning starts are a must for early August. A little hike-in will put you on the water before the sun hits.

Some steelhead runs offer more than enough room for two fly anglers to work the water.

My own favorite flavor of the steelhead pattern is the Midnight Rainbow Carpetbagger. Actually the fly has been catching the attention of upper Rogue River steelhead and cutthroat for the past month and a half, and it should remain good all August.
